That was a bit tough on Dorothy Day, there, Frank. The woman walked the Catholic Social Teaching Talk, and that was the Old Catholic Social Teaching Talk from before Vatican II. She practiced serious poverty–wearing clothes that even the homeless rejected from the donations, taking buses across the USA to speak, refusing to be taken to restaurants–and she had a deep devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. There’s a story that when the 1970s hit and a priest held Mass around the coffee table, using a coffee cup as a chalice, she buried the chalice afterwards, so it could never be used for a profane purpose. Don’t judge Dorothy Day by her admirers. She may have found herself surrounded by hippies, but she was not a hippy.
Hi Dorothy. Yes, I’ve read that chalice story too, but unfortunately it’s common to hear a few pious stories about people being promoted as FrancisSaints. Is there anything purely good happening today in her name only a generation after her passing?
Great update, and I really appreciate canon 212 and these updates. You are so right on the money so to speak in relation to the hidden money power in the Church. And Noam Chomsky, I could say without a shred of irony that he would be preferable over the dreadful sodomy-usary bishops who infest the Church hierarchy, especially on the East Coast. He may be actually more Catholic than O’Mally, Weurl, or the dreadful Lori in Balrimore openly supporting the “LBGT” filth.
