5 Thoughts on “Canon212 Update: If Even Francis Knows He Doesn’t Belong in Castel Gandolfo, Why Do You Keep Telling Us He Does?

I recall Ming the Merciless as a villain from the old Flash Gordon movies with Buster Crabbe. Wiki has a lot more on his villainy in cartoons, movies, books, etc

Funny that a few weeks ago, I asked my Francisloving parish priest if he ever heard of MIng the Merciless. I was just trying to inject a little humor after his umpteenth finger-pointing sermon at us rigid, unbending unwelcoming Pharisees in the pews.

  2. I recognize Ming the Merciless is not Catholic but can we know with any certainty whether he’s Christian?

I was looking into religion in Brazil a few years back and found the strange yet interesting story of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG), a Pentecostal church that has seen significant growth in membership while Catholic Church numbers have been steadily declining.

In 2014, construction of ‘The Temple of Solomon’ was completed in Sao Paulo and the head of UCKG, “Bishop” Edir Macedo, celebrated its inaugural meeting in white beard, kippah and tallit. Macedo, who supports abortion, LGBT rights and same-sex ‘marriage’ is no stranger to controversy.

Why would a Pentecostal “bishop,” at a cost of $300 million, construct a replica of The Temple of Solomon in Brazil? I have no idea but it makes for interesting reading.

I saw a picture of that thing. It’s huge. i dwarfs the Cathedral.

      • Yes, it’s massive, from 3 to 4 times the size of the original. And twice the height of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. Complete with imported Jerusalem stone, menorahs, ark of the covenant and ‘temple priests’ with mitres, vestments and breastplates. They even fly the flag of Israel. Not all Jews are impressed, though.

Macedo owns the second largest television station in Brazil as well as a bank and is reputed to be a billionaire. He’s called for a theocratic state and his nephew, Marcelo Crivella, also a “bishop” in UCKG, was elected mayor of Rio last year.

I must admit, when I learned of Macedo’s positions on abortion and same-sex ‘marriage’ and saw pictures of him celebrating the inaugural service in 2014 dressed as a rabbi, the first thing that came to mind was Revelation 2:9.

How many Christian church leaders do you suppose expressly or tacitly support abortion? And let’s leave out Francis and his support of that “great Italian,” Emma Bonino.
