As Our Lord clearly told us, people who may have done “mighty deeds” but are without the Faith are not moving towards Eternal Life. The purpose of God’s mercy, His intention for all the love and grace He gives, is our transformation so we can better know, love, and serve Him for the salvation of our souls. Although many may pray for God’s mercy, they may not receive it because they seek their happiness or relief (removal of the cross) and not His holy Will.
“The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (Corinthians 1:18).
We have to learn what He wants to teach us and what He wants us to do and change, through the cross, so we can grow in faith, receive God’s mercy and obtain Heaven. Just one sin (mortal or venial), for which we aren’t truly sorry and willing to suffer anything rather than again offend God, repudiates forgiving saving mercy.
