It’s funny – Steve Skojec didn’t like being by “Restoring The Faith” on Twitter who scolded him for being “shameless”.

I don’t know what drove the Twitter spat. But Skojec’s public forum techniques are well known to everybody. Many like him for it, even though others (me) really don’t. One thing for sure – Steve Skojec doesn’t mind shoveling his own insults on people he disagrees with. And If the person being insulted is particularly adept at standing firm, making a good point, perhaps demonstrating Steve’s error (perhaps not) or just comes across better than Steve in print …. guaranteed Steve blocks the person permanently.

His dispute with Ann Barnhart is a representative example. And, for myself, I’ve read a few things I wrote (over five years ago now) and feel my disputes are decent examples as well. I find him a combination of shallow, bombast, insulting and cowardly to the extent (only to this extent) that he shuts down opposition – the more effective the quicker it happens.

I have no current problem with Steve other than that he is very wrong on some very crucial questions; vulnerable Catholics (aren’t we all these days?) follow him and he has a responsibility to be more careful in such a public speaking position. He can pound his chest with the most obnoxious of them … and then post a cigar smoking selfie to show his immense coolness.

So – his diatribe against “Restoring The Faith” and subsequent implied public invitation to his followers to pile on … rings pretty weak to me. He is who he is. And I don’t really feel sorry for his feelings. He can dish it with the best of them. I think he’ll be fine – those that might be worried about him.

Perhaps he can lead by example. Start by extending the hand of friendship to “Restore”. That would be nice. That would advance the Kingdom in a small way.

It suddenly struck me, after I wrote this … I missed the most important thing: “*Shame has always been an essential part of Catholic culture*”.

That is SO TRUE! And it is NOT an insult. It is an objective FACT, if one is truly Catholic. Public shaming us not necessarily bad … IF one is Catholic and receives it as he ought. Shamelessness is not good. That is examination of conscience level observation.

Whether Steve Skojec takes it like I do or not … I actually appreciate “Restore’s” observation. Perhaps we should all. We could all do with a little more shame, a little less pride, in our lives.

      Thanks! “Restoring The Faith”!

After having read Skojec’s lengthy article on himself, his family, and the FSSP Priest in conflict with him over Sacramental submission and abuse – I now know what the conflict was and “Restore The Faith’s” focus on *shame*, specifically the comment that was controversial to the Twitterati: “Shame has always been an essential part of Catholic culture”.

The comment, I suspect, was generated by this from Steve’s message (to everyone). He wrote to the Priest, then shared the letter he wrote to the world, explaining how the FSSP Priest could repent and turn from his sin and restore good grace and fellowship with the Skojecs. Note – the emphasis in Steve’s letter was on repentance … the Priests (!).

In reference to the advice of “Restore” on shame being a central element of the Catholic Faith, the proper response in a situation like that is to take a deep breath, cast out the initial (natural) anger and go directly to (supernatural) submission … which leads to shame (for the stated violation) … which leads to repentance … which leads to penance … which leads to reconciliation.

It’s the ONLY way! It’s a really good observation which got lost in the Twitter pig pile (“ya big meanie”). Submission to (rightful, lawful) authority is at the heart of the Catholic Faith. Violations of authority, when recognized, leads to … *shame* (etc).

But – if PRIDE is the way, and I’m as bad as anyone in that sin, then there is no possibility for shame. It is excluded. And repentance is rendered IMPOSSIBLE. Anger, fire and defending one’s person and honor (that’s not the righteous kind the Bible talks about) is what happens next. Cinders, not bowed head in a confession line praying with your fellows.

God is good! Shame is good! Shame is a step on the path to righteousness, without which no one can see the Lord! *” 14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness: without which no man shall see God*” (Hebrews 12:14).

BTW – the proper response to the startling discipline Steve received from this Priest of God is:

“What must I do? Tell me every step, how can I repent and re-enter into Grace, both me and my family”?

Like the Jailer of St. Paul, who likely felt deep shame at the sight of this man who could have run but remained thereby saving his life:

29 Then calling for a light, he went in, and trembling, fell down at the feet of Paul and Silas.
30 And bringing them out, he said: *Masters, what must I do, that I may be saved*?
31 But they said: Believe in the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32 *And they preached the word of the Lord to him and to all that were in his house*.
33 And he, taking them the same hour of the night, *washed their stripes, and himself was baptized, and all his house immediately*.
34 And when he had brought them into his own house, *he laid the table for them, and rejoiced with all his house, believing God*.

          Acts 16: 29-34

Wonderful story. Starts with shame. Huh!

Their argument boils down to: “long time ago; deed us done; consume the results.”

My argument is: remoteness is not relevant. Participation in the product of a past crime is to participate in THAT crime and FUTURE crimes rendered profitable by your economic vote.

    https://www.lifenews.com/2021/05/27/scientists-vote-to-allow-growing-babies-in-the-womb-for-40-days-to-kill-them-for-research/

The market is so big, now that 1,200,000,000 Catholics are now in needs new efficiencies. Grow a baby. Harvest the baby. Kill the baby. Use the baby parts for “great good”. Like wheat. Come, and eat!

Sow the wind. Real the whirlwind. This is where this goes without the voice of God (a valid Pope) speaking for Him in our lost, sick and desperate world.

Stand up, Bishops of Christ! Soldiers wish to follow you! Stand up for Christ against this evil!
