  1. Hi Frank,

As someone with a degree in ancient and medieval history, I hope you don’t mind if I correct the historical record…

The ancient Greek and Roman cultures were extremely tolerant of sodomy and every other perverted sexual practice, including pedophilia.

In fact, it was not uncommon for a man to openly take a boy lover, but also marry a woman in order to produce children (Greek general Alexander the Great comes to mind).

The outrageous sexual perversions of the 12 Roman Caesars (too revolting to mention here) were recorded by the ancient historian Suetonius in his book The Twelve Caesars
    (WARNING: contains graphic descriptions!).

If you dare, you can read it online at:

Rampant sexual immorality is always a sign of a pagan culture. In the post-Christian countries, we crashed through the guard rails in the 1960s. Once sodomy is accepted, it’s a sure indicator that the culture is in the toilet.

Only the Second Coming of Jesus can fix this mess!

That’s one I’d read about before, Sandra, but my clumsy point was that it’s a mistake to immediately set aside the laws, wisdom, and knowledge of past generations as if they were ignorant or barbaric.

For sure, Frank, the gremlin that haunts our times is ignorance and failure to recall the trials or understand the lessons of the past. When, as now, the patterns of history are forgotten, deleted, or revised, the ignorant and the slothful are condemned to rot in a tragic cycle of rinse and repeat.

Great Romans like Cicero and Virgil linked patriotism with piety (Pietas), courage (Virtus), duty, honor and fear of the gods. The Romantic classical world believed in life beyond today, tomorrow, and the temporal, physical future. They believed in the “eternal” which means timeless and everlasting; It means immortality. The Afterlife would be spent in the Elysian Fields (for the faithful, the heroes) or Hades (for the faithless, the cowards, the traitors). Christianity used the terms Heaven and Hell. That “eternal” choice between blessed glory and damnation was for each person to make during his/her time on earth.
Once the Romans conquered the East and became “Hellenized,” the idealism of the Republic began to fall apart: Mammon and Venality were worshipped instead. Everything and everyone became for sale or for entertainment until the ruin and collapse of Imperial Rome centuries later.

Human nature does not change. Worldly temptations, addictive appetites, fanatical passions for power and possessions never come stamped with “past due date” labels. The Medieval Christian Church summed up evil in the capital sins, the “seven ways of eternal death,” categorized into three types: appetite (gluttony, lust, avarice); irascibility (wrath, pride); mind corruption (envy, sloth).

Modern tyrants have become so brazen that there is no longer need to even pretend to give the impression that they are honorable men. Their subjects have been so dumbed-down through generations of cultural indoctrination and “year zero” censorship that that they can hardly distinguish fantasy from reality.
