Just as Mr. Schmaltz’ oh so popular “Homeless Jesus Asleep On A Park Bench in Madrid” had nothing whatsoever to do with the real Jesus, so his latest art piece (Our Lady of Knots) had nothing in common with the original 17th Century German painting. It had nothing to do with the beauty, let alone the blessing of Mary.
Doesn’t it look to be a provocative, nefarious testimony to Masonry, its signs and seals basically adapted from Middle Eastern mythology? Take for example the winged sky god Horus, symbol of power and quintessence, depicted in art as a hawk hovering over the head of the pharaohs. Set crudely atop the Schmaltz statue’s head, the bird of prey looks a poor substitute for the Holy Spirit, the gentle dove. For further homage to the Cult of Horus, we have only to look at the Big Bird plumage and quills zoomorphically attached to fawning, frowning natives flanking each side of the fake Mary.
In iconography, the “nimbus” glow around the head was the mark of holy men and women. See how the Schmaltz halo is not made up of light but of tassels. On ancient Egyptian garments and jewelry, tassels were prominent fetishes, associated with charms and magic. Wardens and officers in Masonic Lodges wear tassels.
The statue’s head covering can hardly be called a veil, but closely resembles the legs of a massive Compass, which along with the Square and gnostic G, is the universal Masonic logo. While traditional images of Mary show her with a crown of stars and standing on a half moon, what we see here is a menacing, androgynous Witch scowling over a crystal ball, an ersatz Planet Earth which looks to be tied up in cords, knots, rusty barbed wire…. the undoing of which is apparently the Crone’s special craft. In the Masonic tradition, knotted ropes and wavy cords represent the “chains of union,” the mystic ties binding members “wherever dispersed, into one band of brothers.” Typically, tessellated knot-designs are used to decorate the rooms and borders of floors of Masonic Lodges.
Yes, what we have here, as attested by none other than Schmaltz himself, is “the heart of Francis.” Wondering how much the Ottowa artist was paid for this monumental publicity stunt…..And who paid him? Could it be the Pope of the Freemasonic Anti-Church himself?
