Governor McMaster yesterday authorized churches to hold services outside or indoors with proper social distancing on Easter Sunday and publicly acknowledged that he had no authority to ban religious worship.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Diocese of Charleston has been on sacramental lockdown for quite some time and Catholics who are creative have had to find alternative venues.<\/em><\/p>\n

So far, there has been no change in that policy or even acknowledgement of Governor McMaster’s new directive by Bishop Guglielmone.<\/em><\/p>\n

These facts are accurate and up-to-date at the timing of this message.<\/em><\/p>\n

South Carolina Governor Henry\u00a0McMaster on Monday authorized churches to hold services outside or indoors with proper social distancing on Easter Sunday and publicly acknowledged that he had no authority to ban religious worship.<\/p>\n

“I can’t speak for other governors, but this governor is not going to intrude on the First Amendment,” Governor McMaster said. “That is an absolute right.”<\/p>\n

The Diocese of Charleston has been on sacramental lockdown for quite some time and Catholics who are creative have had to find alternative venues.<\/p>\n

There has been no change in that policy or\u00a0acknowledgement of Governor McMaster’s new directive by Bishop Guglielmone. Neither the bishop nor the diocese responded by a request for comment by close of business Tuesday.<\/p>\n
