First Agenda Item: Love"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_2574\" style=\"width: 554px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/66.147.242.160\/~stumbli4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/cantina.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2574\" class=\"wp-image-2574 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/66.147.242.160\/~stumbli4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/cantina.jpg?resize=544%2C389\" alt=\"cantina\" width=\"544\" height=\"389\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2574\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">State-Funded Catholics<\/p><\/div>\n<p>At the Register Edward Pentin has the somewhat frightening <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/daily-news\/confidential-meeting-seeks-to-sway-synod-to-accept-same-sex-unions\/\" target=\"_blank\">report <\/a>of a progressive &#8216;shadow synod&#8217; being driven from Germany.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A one-day study meeting \u2014 open only to a select group of individuals \u2014 took place at the Pontifical Gregorian University on Monday with the aim of urging \u201cpastoral innovations\u201d at the upcoming Synod of Bishops on the Family in October.<\/p>\n<p>Around 50 participants, including bishops, theologians and media representatives, took part in the gathering, at the invitation of the presidents of the bishops\u2019 conferences of Germany, Switzerland and France \u2014 Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Bishop Markus B\u00fcchel and Archbishop Georges Pontier.<\/p>\n<p>One of the key topics discussed at the closed-door meeting was how the Church could better welcome those in stable same-sex unions, and reportedly \u201cno one\u201d opposed such unions being recognized as valid by the Church.<\/p>\n<p>Participants also spoke of the need to \u201cdevelop\u201d the Church\u2019s teaching on human sexuality and called not for a theology of the body, as famously taught by St. John Paul II, but the development of a \u201ctheology of love.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s amazing how little these types of clerics actually know about love, isn&#8217;t it?\u00a0 Is love sex? Is love gay sex?<\/p>\n<p>I guess when you spend most of your adult life pleasing false superiors, then later on simply shuttling from one catered event to another, handled by servants and office help; your judgment can get skewed.\u00a0 In Germany if you rise to cardinal, in effect you become a permanent bureaucrat at the top of a state-funded empire with few hard\u00a0 demands upon your leadership or expenses.\u00a0 You also have tremendous leverage.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One Swiss priest discussed the \u201cimportance of the human sex drive,\u201d while another participant, talking about holy Communion for remarried divorcees, asked: \u201cHow can we deny it, as though it were a punishment for the people who have failed and found a new partner with whom to start a new life?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marco Ansaldo, a reporter for the Italian daily newspaper <em>La Repubblica,<\/em> who was present at the meeting, said the words seemed \u201crevolutionary, uttered by clergymen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>French Biblicist and Ratzinger Prize-winner Anne-Marie Pelletier praised the dialogue that took place between theologians and bishops as a \u201creal sign of the times.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/vaticaninsider.lastampa.it\/vaticano\/dettaglio-articolo\/articolo\/sinodo-famiglia-41356\/\">According<\/a> to <em>La Stampa<\/em>, another Italian daily newspaper, Pelletier said the Church needs to enter into \u201ca dynamic of mutual listening,\u201d in which the magisterium continues to guide consciences, but she believes it can only effectively do so if it \u201cechoes the words of the baptized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The meeting took the \u201crisk of the new, in fidelity with Christ,\u201d she claimed.
