{"id":3297,"date":"2015-06-17T14:32:35","date_gmt":"2015-06-17T18:32:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/66.147.242.160\/~stumbli4\/?p=3297"},"modified":"2015-06-17T22:16:30","modified_gmt":"2015-06-18T02:16:30","slug":"time-to-turn-off-the-francis-show-and-stay-faithful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stumblingblock.org\/?p=3297","title":{"rendered":"Time to Turn Off the Francis Show and Stay Faithful"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_3315\" style=\"width: 495px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/66.147.242.160\/~stumbli4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/archie-bunker.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3315\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3315\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/66.147.242.160\/~stumbli4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/archie-bunker.jpg?resize=485%2C371\" alt=\"Don't be fooled into pretending it's real\" width=\"485\" height=\"371\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3315\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Don&#8217;t be fooled into pretending it&#8217;s real<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A day ahead of Ramadan, and of the final release of the Global Warming Encyclical, we have to ask, &#8220;At what point can we recognize that the things Pope Francis writes and says are not rooted in the Catholic Faith, but are merely blanket <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zenit.org\/en\/articles\/pope-invites-all-to-welcome-encyclical-with-an-open-spirit?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+zenit%2Fenglish+%28ZENIT+English%29\" target=\"_blank\">politically correct assertions<\/a>?&#8221;\u00a0 Pope Francis is really more like the &#8220;Pope Francis Show&#8221; than an actual Pope, isn&#8217;t he?<\/p>\n<p>When I was a boy I used to laugh at the character of Archie Bunker.\u00a0 He was so funny and he was in no way a hero.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Everyone on that show seemed realistic.\u00a0 They always argued.\u00a0 They were poor.\u00a0 All In The Family was the top program for several years.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t until much later that I realized that the point of Archie and Edith wasn&#8217;t our entertainment.\u00a0 That show was created to confuse people.\u00a0 It&#8217;s goal was the transformation of our culture &#8211; and it worked.<\/p>\n<p>Much more brilliant than the acting and the punch lines was the creation of the characters.\u00a0 Most of the thought went into building individuals who were normal, decent, and conservative, yet foolish, selfish, undisciplined, or ignorant.\u00a0 That&#8217;s hard to do.\u00a0 Archie and Edith were two people who would not actually exist.\u00a0 That&#8217;s the whole point of television really, to create a false world. I no longer find that show very funny.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s in the same spirit I believe that the world is now treated to Pope Francis.\u00a0 There is a lot of thought and preparation behind the character of Francis, and his performance is executed quite well.\u00a0 The Pope Francis show may seem like a clumsy bull in a china shop but it isn&#8217;t slowing, or stopping to regroup.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t think small.\u00a0 It rolls up the whole world in its carpet.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Pope Francis has invited all faithful to welcome the Encyclical on the environment, entitled &#8220;<em>Laudato si<\/em>, on the care of our common home.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Toward the end of his weekly General Audience in St. Peter&#8217;s Square, the Holy Father launched an appeal, saying,\u00a0&#8220;Tomorrow, as you know, the encyclical on the care of the \u2018common home\u2019 that is creation will be published.\u00a0This common \u2018home,\u2019&#8221;
