4 Thoughts on “Canon212 Update: Faithful Catholics Don’t Owe WeigelChurch a Thing

  1. Hi Frank. You’ve been at this a while now and have seen a huge volume of headlines, quotes and actions attributable to the chaos that is Francis. Did you ever imagine a war the likes of which is taking place within the Catholic Church today?

And what do you make of Cardinal Burke’s recent remarks that the “exceedingly difficult times” we are facing “realistically seem to be apocalyptic”? I thought it was rather remarkable for a cardinal, especially one who is ‘conservative’ and chooses his words so carefully, to express this view.

Hi James. I have to agree with Cardinal Burke, but I am increasingly getting the sense that his rare skills are more political than pastoral. I hope to be proven wrong, as we all do so often.

      • Thank you for the response. It seems to me you have a unique perspective as an aggregator of many different lines of thought.

I agree about the cardinal. He can equivocate with the best of them. Francis and his sycophants come dressed for battle every day it seems. And it’s guerrilla warfare and ‘take no prisoners.’ Candidly, I’m not real confident the college of cardinals can muster a defense much less go on the offensive. I hope I’m wrong. But Francis seems to control the narrative.

I asked about the apocalyptic comment because I’ve heard from a couple of acquaintances recently (i.e., a nurse and a police sergeant) who think we’re in or approaching the end times. And, as you know, that type of thinking once defined someone as a ‘tin foil hat’ type. But no longer it seems.

When I read Burke’s address to the group in Louisville, I was surprised to see him use the word ‘apocalyptic’ three times. Of course he also used the word ‘diabolical’ twice. And who can read his following passage and not think these are strange days indeed: “There is no question that the Church is in the midst of a particularly fierce time of battle against the forces of evil, against Satan and his cohorts.”
