I’ll bet those social “scientists” lumped fundamental Muslims into their analysis that yielded their results that mass murderers are more likely to be “religious”.
I do agree with you though that they all lack love in their formative years. I’ve often pondered what life is like in a fundamentalist Muslim household. I cannot fathom much tenderness and nurturing of young men therein by either parent. I can only imagine verbal abuse of women and children and depravity.
I think the laws of God are written on people’s hearts. I guess most Muslim families can be fairly loving, self-contained. At least they don’t suffer with divorce, which destroys a family and its children. But then there are the well-known issues that trend from Islam and what it imposed on people. Remember the Chesterton poem: “Don John of Austria Has set his people free!”

I’m not sure what you mean about Muslim families not suffering from divorce. Muslim women are considered chattel. They have very little protections from a bad husband and a bad state. Some have to share a husband with multiple wives at the same time. I think their children do indeed suffer.
But regarding JD Vance. Have you read Hillbilly Elegy? I understand your skepticism about converts. I share it as well, however, in the picture in the article he is kneeling to receive Holy Communion and the priest is properly vested and it looks like the Mass was said ad orientem (at least) or was in the Extraordinary Form. I think, too, that anyone coming from Vance’s background should be given the benefit of the doubt when converting in this current state of ecclesial affairs. Maybe he was just trying to have more hope than criticism. I don’t know. I did appreciate his book and I agree with his occasional commentaries on Fox News programs. He seems more sincere in his Faith than Hannity anyway.
The issues you mention all bear out, but I think most married Muslim people are monogamous and they don’t have anywhere near the Western divorce rates, yet.
I haven’t read Vance’s book. I just take issue with his statement. It’s not true, and I would hope a man like him even as a convert would know better.
Oh Frank, I agree with you that our current situation is not the same as Vance’s example. It is so much worse. But I guess I am happy to see him progressing. If you are so inclined, I recommend his book. He just tells his story and how the culture of government programs, etc. has ravaged his family. He tells it without politics, just empirical evidence and painfully personal. I hope now as a Catholic and one who came seeking the Truth, he will continue learn more and courageously proclaim it.
(and my kids will tell you how ‘fed up’ I am when having to hear about yet another convert telling me what I am supposed to do to ‘witness’ to Christ, blah blah blah…)
