Mike Lewis, who runs the NewChurch blog he calls “where Peter is”, understands that submitting to the authority of the RC Church Magisterium … but fails to understand what it actually is – in the same way that he fails to understand the maxim – “where Peter is, there is the Church”.
He started his blog as a response to the 5 Cardinal’s Dubia – not because he agreed with their Magisterial questions, but because their Magisterial nature and dogmatic truth offended his personal beliefs, his desire to see his personal religion’s (NewChurch) champion succeed as Bishop of Rome, whom he calls Pope … “Peter” … who is precisely opposite on every dogmatic Dubia question you can imagine.
Peter Lewis says, quote:
“The publication of the so-called dubia by four retired cardinals in late 2016 was one of the key events that motivated us to begin speaking out. These five questions (perhaps better described as “accusations framed as questions”) challenged the orthodoxy of Francis’s magisterial teaching and undermined the authority of the pope … and … When I survey the current state of “conservative Catholicism,” I don’t recognize much of the universal Church in it at all. I see an ideological sect that is, as Francis described it, “obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently … and … For my part, I intend to do everything I can to help Where Peter Is reflect Pope Francis’s vision for the Church”.
This is the conundrum in a nutshell. NewChurch is quantifiably disconnected from the Constant Magisterium of Holy Mother Church which does not change nor can it, because it is already perfect. NewChurch and its Bishop of Rome has new ideas and his authority as titular head (not mystical head, as occupant of the Holy Office of Christ’s Vicar, His Viceroy). The Magisterium Mike Lewis claims for Bishop Bergoglio is not shared by all the Popes who ever lived and ever will live, nor is it part of the Communion of Saints which delivered the Magisterium intact and whole to each generation until our own. It is Pope Francis’s magisterium – and within that “magisterium” asking him to confirm dogmatic questions in the Faith affirming Dubia format is an insult to his power to decide whatever he personally pleases.
Sorry, Mike Lewis, “where Peter is” blog author, but you need to rethink what Magisterium actually is, according to the Dogmatic and constant Teaching of Holy Mother Church. The Pope – the *TRUE* Pope – is *SERVANT* to God, to God’s revelation and His Holy Bride, and to the People of God who worship their Redeemer the same, the same, the same, from generation to generation until the Eschaton when we will *STILL* worship our Redeemer the same.
So you are right, Mike Lewis. I am no longer a “conservative” Catholic. I am a revolutionary. You, otoh, you *are* conservative, because you seek to conserve the NewChurch status quo. I am an orthodox Catholic who seeks to return the stumbling and largely heretical and lost structures and members of NewChurch to their roots in the *true* and constant Magisterium.
