Why are the most corrupt and tyrannical world leaders in unison ready to become Catholic now that we have Francis? Obama, Ban Ki Moon, Al Gore, Raul Castro: It’s like they all think Catholicism has become a completely new religion.
Castro is ready to start praying once again if only Pope Francis keeps going the way he’s been going? So Francis just needs to inch a wee bit closer to Raul’s ideal, and then he expects us news-reading simps to think he’s going to begin praying again after 50 years of murder and atheist oppression.
Al Gore is in the same boat. He’s almost there! Just a bit more global warming theology and he’ll be ready to renounce his Southern Baptist ‘tradition.’
I hope the Pope is able to meet their respective marks. That would be a great, great victory for dialogue and the culture of encounter.
Who will Castro and Gore turn to when they begin their prayer journey though, Pope Francis? If Pope Francis has changed Catholicism so much that these guys are ready to convert, he must have trumped Christ Himself. In the Church they seem to envision, this would be the right form of devotion: pray to Francis.
Don’t worry. I don’t think they’ll be making any adjustments in their prayer schedules. Both of these men know that Pope Francis is just a man. He’s their man. They think we believe that he has changed our Church. They think we’re that easily duped. That’s why we’re Catholic in the first place, you see.
But they won’t pray to Francis. If Raul Castro and Al Gore pray to anyone, it’s to themselves.
