LeoPlanet is looking a lot like LutherPlanet redux. What we seem to have here is a Catholic Reformation not unlike that of the Protestant Reformation 500 years ago? After all, Luther was all about equality, no real difference between clergy and laity. That being so, Scripture becomes the final authority for doctrine and practice…with the understanding that Scripture is self-authenticating: for Luther et al., everyone has autonomy of conscience and the right to interpret the Bible according to personal judgment. How is today’s “Synodal Church,” Bergoglian-Prevostian, any different?
From this past June until next year, Lutherans in Germany and Lutheran pilgrims from wherever are going to Wittenberg to celebrate the Nuptials of runaway nun, Katharina, and Augustinian friar and ex-priest, Martin Luther. Tours include the vast estate where they, their six children, assorted visitors and students lived: “the Black Monastery” was also a ranch, brewery, and “school” for Augustinian friars. Remorse, penance, forgiveness? Forgetaboutit, as Luther (like Calvin) believed in Predestination.
The irony is that Leo X officially excommunicated Martin Luther from the Catholic Church, calling him a wild “boar” rampaging and pillaging “the vineyard of Christ.” Now, the Augustinian Leo XIV seems to be saying, “Welcome home, my brothers and sisters.” Construction of a Frat House Church well underway.
