For years now, Lebanon has been in actuality two small countries: The line of demarcation is Beirut and places east of the city. Moslem Hezbollah dominates south of Beirut and down to the Israeli border; that’s mainly the warzone. North of Beirut is Maronite Christian territory, amazingly prosperous with mansions, monasteries, casinos, universities, beach and mountain resorts, etc. That’s the area Leo chose for his rock star “peace tour” (bands, singers, red carpets and all). Talk about preaching to the choir! But if the smiley “peacemaker” had strayed just south of Beirut, his fate would have been that of those doves.
