How Ironic. I’m Being Evicted And It’s the Year Of Mercy!

Despite the fact that almost no actual Catholics have ventured to Rome to float through the MercyDoor, there is some FrancisMercy-related news in the secular Italian media.  In the off-year Holy Jubilee, for some reason Roman loafers think it’s time to occupy other people’s homes for free.

Rome (AFP) – Italian police clashed with squatters in central Rome Tuesday during a housing rights demonstration, with protesters saying evictions should be put on hold during Pope Francis’s “Year of Mercy”.

Uniformed and plain-clothes officers scuffled with members of RAM, the acronym of the Metropolitan Housing Resistance group which organised the protest, and its spokesman said nine people had been detained.

Demonstrators held a sit-in atop scaffolding on a building opposite Rome’s prefecture and hung banners reading “Stop evictions” and “We are not terrorists”.

At least they’re not terrorists. Do you think some of them might be Muslim ‘refugees’?  It doesn’t matter.  Whoever they are, they have a perfect understanding of FrancisMercy, much clearer than the most sophisticated faux-Catholic FrancisApologist.  Whether it’s earthly goods or God’s pardon, FrancisMercy just means expecting to be given something for which you have no right.

In the street below, some 100 Italians and foreigners called for Rome to address a growing housing crisis.

“Every day there are between 30 and 50 families in Rome put out on the street,” said Omero Lauri, 51, RAM spokesman.

“The situation has got much worse recently with the excuse of terrorism,” he said, with fears of jihadist violence since the Paris attacks last year leading to heightened concerns over undocumented people living off the radar.

But Alejandro Moncada from Equador, 35, said security issues were just an excuse to intensify evictions.

“The irony is that it is the pope’s Year of Mercy,” he said, in reference to a special Jubilee year called by Francis from December 8, during which pilgrims are urged to dedicate more time to merciful acts and helping the disadvantaged.

“This year should be about helping the weak, not treating us like terrorists,” said the father-of-one, who has been in Italy for 12 years along with his wife and parents, but struggles to find work as a cleaner.

Is every bum in Europe now being confused with a terrorist?  If you get evicted for mooching off your landlord is that counter-terrorism?  Does being generally useless and broke mean you’re weak? Is this ‘cleaner’ who’s been unemployed for ten years someone else’s fault?

Catholic religious adherence and worship are acts of justice to God, who is both merciful and just.  As leader of the Catholic faith, the Pope is supposed to teach us how to treat God and each other with justice and love.  What are we supposed to do and why?  What is the pathway to follow Christ?  Instead, the FrancisEffect encourages bums to make unjust demands on others and think it’s moral.  They learn to flout, hurt, and ignore God, then presume he’s  ready to welcome them into Heaven with open arms.

Property and Catholic doctrine are twin enemies of the current man in white.

I was immediately taken aback at the announcement of a Pope Francis Jubilee Year of Mercy.  Francis has never been about mercy.  He’s about license.

I was happy to celebrate the Year 2000 jubilee because I was proud and amazed at our Church’s history, but I knew this time Pope Francis was just milking the tradition, breaking ancient protocols for which he cares nothing, and abusing the faithful for his own radical schemes.

The FrancisVatican employs cream of the crop secular PR consultants.  These brainiacs toss Church devotions, traditions, papal events around like cards, commiserating for an angle to ply their new FrancisChurch agendas.  Don’t look for any Jesus PR though.  Francis PR implies Jesus PR. It would be redundant.

In Rome apparently, the year 2000 jubilee was less than penitential anyway and many in Italy can see through the charade.

The Italian journalist Antonio Margheriti Mastino wrote on his website papalepapale: ” Some time ago, a well-known, hypochondriacal Cardinal, perhaps under a permanent state of fear of suffering caused by the psychosis, had said in private that the IOR [Vatican bank]  was in  very poor condition and that it was only a matter of months until it breaks down. Was that exaggeration? Possibly. However, this is not the first time that similar financial situations have occurred and the Holy See has often reacted to it with an extraordinary anniversary. By this he meant that such a generous offer had been made, that could  avoid through repentance and conversion,  to reduce the budget deficit.  Nevertheless, Antonio Mastino continued, “it is a fact that the last remoarseful Jubilee did not earn   much and they had bet all on extensive media coverage. To those, like me,  who live in Rome and experience it live, it seemed like a kind of giant fairground, where all sense of boundaries had gone and in the general penance was the last thing on the minds of the participants which took place in all of  2000. This was so bad that Cardinal Ratzinger raised his eyes to heaven glancing at this psychedelic program of the jubilee  and resignedly said, once every 25 years, okay … but no more ‘ .”

On March 15, the Italian journalist Antonio Socci asked on his site antoniosocci: “Will the Holy Year, which has just been announced be centered, as the previous, on  Jesus Christ or will it be centered  on Pope Bergoglio? … The jubilee years have always been related  since the First in 1300 on dates that had to do with the birth and death of Jesus Christ; including the (very rare) Extraordinary anniversaries. The anniversary year in 2016 is the first anniversary in the history of the Church that is not centered around a historical event of Jesus Christ during his earthly life. Because they needed a reason to convene it in 2016, Bergoglio decided that it should take place on the 50th anniversary of the conclusion of the Second Vatican Council. But what’s this? For an anniversary?  There was never an anniversary year for a council. Moreover, the Second Vatican Council ended in 1965, not in 1966 and therefore they will not celebrate the 50th, but the 51st anniversary of the conclusion of the 21st Council of the Church.

Therefore, this is an excuse, which is more than any other ideological and self-referential, because the anniversary year refers to a church event, rather than on Christ. (When we look at similar events in the history of the church, you could organize a Holy Year every year.)

Self-Referential!  How can he say that?

Pope Francis has composed a special prayer for his untimely Jubilee Year of Mercy.  It strikes a few of his common and somewhat troubling materialist notes.

Lord Jesus Christ, You have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved.

Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!”

Tax collectors enslaved by money, prostitutes, and thieves are all materialistic sinners.  This message is a good one, it’s just characteristically about money and things.

You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified.

Does God manifest his power above all by forgiveness and mercy? What about by his actual power, by his creation, or by his judgments.  Is mercy first?

Can the Church be God’s visible face? Can the Church be it’s Lord?

You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.

Can people not ‘clothed in weakness’ feel compassion for others?

Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.

What is the good news that Pope Francis feels the Church brings to the poor?  Is it the Gospel, or is it some kind of liberation from poverty, or as he may call it, ‘captivity and oppression?’
