I think there’s a back story to Martin’s meeting with Bergoglio. Remember, a couple of months back when Archbishop Chaput publicly castigated Martin for causing “confusion? See here Chaput: Fr. James Martin’s message causes confusion about Church doctrine.
I think Martin’s meeting with Bergoglio was Martin’s direct response to this. He’s saying “the Pope is on my side”.
