3 Thoughts on “CATHOLIC HEADLINES 4.16.22

    Holy Saturday
    16th April 2022 A. D.

Frank, as we ponder Our Lord in the tomb, we may all recall Pope Benedict XVI today as it is his 95th Birthday. He was also born this very day as it was Holy Saturday also in 1922, the year of his birth.

It is most fitting to recall suffering Pope Benedict today, who was driven from power but carefully, studiously even, never resigned the Petrine Munus (Charge or Office or Mandate). He is St. Peter in Chains. He may well be the katechon, He who holds and must be taken out of the way (2 Thess. 2:7) and needs our prayers, and in these evil times the world surely needs his.

Buon Compleano! Happy Birthday, Holy Father Benedict, Vicar of Christ on earth.

In Corde Cristo, Sursum Corda, Viva Cristo Rey!

    P. S. MEMO to MATT et al:

We have a real pope, the Catholic one. His name is Benedict XVI.

  3. The cacophony of the murderous mob on Good Friday, “Away with Him! Away with Him,” goes on and on, ever more appalling. We have only to read the recent neo-Nietzsche rant against God in the NYT, or see the creepy desacralization of the Stations of the Cross at the Colosseum , or hear a rapper porn star set to lead prayers in St.Peter’s, or consider Greta {“How dare you? You have stolen my dreams…”} Thunberg’s canonization as martyr in the Climate Crusades.

Mr. Walker aptly indicated that the old Vatican may recycle into a “theme park,” while Novus Ordo NomenKlatura “will fit [nicely] into four-story office building.” Yes, quite so!
Taking a cue from the six “lands” of Disney’s Magic Kingdom (i.e. FantasyLand. TomorrowLand, etc.), it probably won’t be long before The Francis builds PachamamaLand, not in the park in Orlando but on the site of the “old Vatican,” dominated by the fairy tale castle formerly known as St.Peter’s, the famous piazza having been turned into a stage for every sort of pop music and dance show, parties, parades, you name it.

Too far-fetched? We have only to remember the cheesy Vatican City prototype of PachamamaLand last Christmas. Francis gave us a puebloan “comunidad” and “fiesta patronale” with exotic polychrome mannequins and a motley paper-mache managerie. Emcee at the premiere of the exhibition was the President of Peru’s Tourism Promotion Board. On display were featured a Jesus papoose and Andean native Mary in braids and beads, her mantilla garnished with red-striped Peruvian flags and disks of the Inca sun god (said to be born of the ineluctable Pachamama). No choirs of angels heralding the newborn Savior, no Bethlehem shepherds, no kings of the Orient. Instead, a carnival Krewe of gaudy birdmen, pinatas, “Chiquita Banana” dummies in tutti-fruiti hats, and Passistas’ bags stuffed with potatoes, peppers, roots and tubers. A jumbotron in Paul VI Hall showed costumed Andean children singing in Quechua and dancing like dolls on the mountains and in the churches alike. {Any one remember the Epcot exhibit of puppets bobbing to repeated recordings of “It’s a small world after all”?). But seriously, the Quechua cult is predicated on pre-Columbian animism and pantheism. Pachamama (to whom the Inca sacrificed llamas, guinea pigs, and children) was believed mother of four Quechua deities,” Water, Earth, Sun, and Moon

As Greg Maresca lamented today, on Holy Saturday: “In a world set adrift where attention spans are reduced to 280 characters and ubiquitous idolatry is universal, many churches attempt to compete with secularism and its counterfeit promises.
‘Culture will indeed catechize especially in the dearth of biblical morality. Christians are learning not from church but from the pagans, places and media that consumes them. When religious leaders are more concerned with social justice over salvation, why bother with Church?”
