3 Thoughts on “Canon212 Update: Benedict Was Outside The Overton Window

  1. There is a tremendous article by Fr David Nix, “Padre Peregrino”, on the current crisis of the Faith within the RCC. It is titled “A Circular Firing Squad of Catholics”. In it, he discusses a short paragraph within a lengthier interview of Bp Williamson (SSPX) who makes the cogent observation that in 1969, the RCC decisively separated Truth from Authority. These are meant to be united, as designed by Christ. The spiritual violence of this separation has resulted in intense and growing spiritual *Schizophrenia* among every member of RCC, as we each in our own way try to make sense of what is left. It is an impossible task, because the separation has occurred. Authority is important. Truth is important. No longer united as two wings on a bird, we must choose, to a certain extent between them. Jesuits might represent one extreme. Sedes might represent another. Neither of them are *necessarily* wrong in their choice. All those who choose some combination between these extremes aren’t necesssrily wrong either. And the confusion of solutions to the unsolveable problem (until Christ intervenes directly) is indeed Schizophrenic. The separation has occurred – we Catholics try to put it back together in our various combination choices: Truth-Authority – 0-100%, 100-0%, 50-50% (etc)

But the conclusion of Bishop Williamson is Pastoraly sound and much appreciated. One thing we can do as Catholics, amidst the current Schizophrenic crisis, is to love God and love our neighbor – the greatest commandment, which is intensely personal and not dependent upon any outside agency. And be tolerant in our Christian Charity of others in the RC Faith muddling through the crisis with us. And NEVER think WE are the ones who have uniquely got it all figured out. No one does. No one can. Until Christ intervenes. That’s just a fact.

Stick with the Sacred Deposit of Faith, Tradition and Truth the best we can.
Obey Apostolic authority the best we can.
Love God; Love our Christian brother and sister – in real, practical, personal ways.

Highly recommend the keen and much needed insights contained within this article …

OK then, no need for binoculars! See the FrancisHot AirBalloonChurch as it continues to float unimpeded around the world. The Synodal syncretism of “faith” and “culture” has made its way to Suva, Fiji, where this week the Federation of Catholic Bishop’s Conferences of Oceania is having a Continental Assembly representing New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, Australia, and the Pacific.

The event is run by an Executive Committee of eight Francis-fan bishops, a curious five-member “theological working group”and a nine-member “Task Force” whose “facilitator,” a Ms. Sela, told the press that “The Synodal Church is a Communal Church,” i.e. each member dependent on the other, all jointly journeying on a unified path. Invited to this week’s “Listening and Discerning” groups are also “those who do not participate actively in the life of the Church, or who are members of other Christian confessions, of other religions, or who profess no religion.”
All of these consultations have of course been requested by the albeit airborne Francis himself, Vicar of Bloviators, in order to understand “how the Church is walking together and how it can better walk together with every person.”

The opening Mass on Sunday resembled other [increasingly common] Francis-friendly indigenous ceremonies such as seen at St.Peter’s Pachamama induction, in Eastern Canada, at Ivory Coast airport. Videos of the Suva “welcome” liturgy included priestly celebrants wearing garlands of gardenia, orchids, and hibiscus instead of a cross, processions of semi-naked, tattooed natives in pre-Christian tribal costumes, local totems of “Fijian spirituality and tradition” placed by natives before the altar in bowls and baskets…

Next stop, the North American Episcopal Continental Phase. We’re told that a preliminary “Continental Synthesis” is already in the works, to be submitted to the Vatican Secretariat for the Synod on March 31, 2023. Why not trot out Punxutawney Phil for the kickoff?

I attended mass at a Catholic Church in Fiji in the mid 1990s. The mass was fully Catholic and no witch doctors or semi-naked locals were in attendance. The congregation of Fijian Catholics were all dressed in their Sunday best and sang with voices like angels. Too bad Francis and his cohort cannot appreciate true Catholics.
