“After nearly 20 years with McDonald’s, I [Atul Pathac] decided to sell my business [43 McDonald’s locations] and explore new opportunities [opening 30 U.K. Doner Kebab fast food joints] that reflected the changes we are seeing amongst Gen Z and Millennial consumers.”
Looks like the shish kebab is not just the latest craze in Europe, it even seems to have come to the Il Gesu Basilica in Rome. Yes, en.news reports the opening of the renovated (desecrated) main church of the Jesuits on June 12th. Its venerable Chancel area has been made over to look like a McCafe where Happy Meals are now being served. The giant candlestick seems crafted to resemble a lamb kebab roasting on a skewer. The “altar” looks like a diced piece of zucchini or bell pepper, charred over the coals until its sides start to split. Replacing the time-honored baldacchino, traditionally placed overhead an altar or shrine, the Neo-Dada architects have hung a circular metal canopy, something like a BBQ grill tent or a cloud kitchen.
Yes, the Vicar of Millennial Consumers condones mockery not just of sacred buildings and sacred liturgy, but also of Our Lord’s very own words: “Feed My lambs. Feed My sheep.”
Not to be too discouraged though, as for example we recall Isaiah: “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! … Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One…”
Also from the Old Testament, the Book of Ecclesiastes connects conceit and futility with the image of the circle. It refers to the circular movements and cyclical realities of the earth, the days, the seasons, the years, the constant comings and goings of people, the mutability of time and space: “Vanity of Vanities! All is Vanity!” It presents as equally worthless the typical solution to boredom or despair, namely hedonism: “Eat, drink, and be merry…while you can.”
Forgot to mention the Head Cook of the renovated Il Gesu kitchens, the Master Chef himself, bloated and easily recognizable in his iconic chefwear: the “toque blanche,” the thick white cloth coat, the white waist apron, the serviceable rubber shoes.
Jayd Hendricks, First Things author, makes this perverted Claim:
“Perhaps there is some variant of Catholics here in the U.S. who reject the Second Vatican Council—but their number is very small, one could say negligible. They might have a loud voice in a remote corner of the internet (where they should be ignored and left to wither on the vine), but they do not occupy pews in parishes, and they certainly do not have leadership positions in the Church. There is not a single bishop here in the U.S. who rejects Vatican II, and you have to look very hard to find a priest who is stuck in some pre-conciliar time warp. Such priests do exist, but there certainly are not “many” of them.

This is called the fallacy of the false dilemma – “Sometimes called the “either-or” fallacy, a false dilemma is a logical fallacy that presents only two options or sides when there are many options or sides.”
I don’t know anyone, most of all SSPX Priests who rejects Vatican Council II. Neither do they, however, base the entire Church teaching on Vatican II, as if there were no other binding Council within Sacred Tradition.
The real dilemma should be answered by Jayd Hendricks: Do you accept all of Catholic Church Teachingmasm*EQUALLY BINDING* … or do you only accept that which was professed in the “pastoral” II Vatican Counciil?
And if you do, please answer why the Mass of Trent is now no longer permissible – the Holy Sacrifice guaranteed by Papal Bull Quo Primus is now illegal under Vatican II.
What is dying on the vine, Jayd, are those elements of the Church who (which) have disconnected themselves from the Depositum Fidei – which is far, far beyond the weak sauce of Vatican Council II, and its questionable Constitutions.
Everything that was true before, remains true now and forever. If a Council proposes something new – source it in Depositum Fidei, with footnotes. If you cannot, it is an innovation and Catholics are REQUIRED to reject it as a matter of Faith and Morals.
Vatican II is not the Faith. It is a part of the Faith, that which is in alignment. The Faith transcends any one Council. Vatican II is *a* Council. It is not *the* Council.
