Archbishop Chaput: very disappointing. Traditional Mass Catholics are bleeding from Francis and Chaput rubs salt into the wounds. Well, you don’t even have to scratch me to get anti-Conciliar sentiments. And certainly not to get anti-episcopal sentiments.
Replying to myself — there is more to say. The Church is riddled with heresy, perverts are coming out of the woodwork, Francis is an enemy of the Faith, Mass attendance is down (and very much down since that wonderful Council,) the faithful aren’t very faithful — and Archbishop Chaput is commenting on shell-shocked Traditionalists. The beatings will continue until morale improves.
Patrick, one thing with which I beg to differ is that “Mass attendance is down.” Where we are, the Sunday Masses are so crowded that people have to stand in back or sit in the narthex. That said, well over half are out the door just before the Agnus Dei or right after receiving the host (I cannot use the word Holy Communion). From the way the men and women look (beach bum casual, paper masks, flip-flops or thongs, ear buds or cells, sanitizers, etc.), it’s impossible to imagine they understand the living sacred mystery of Our Lord’s sacrifice of Calvary or that they are receiving Our Lord’s most precious Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. Many of those who stay for the entire Mass start clapping as if they had been at a stage show; furthermore, they stay on not to pray but to chitchat and laugh out loud (to be heard over the organ music) with friends as if Our Lord were not right there in the Blessed Sacrament.
Down or up, attendance at so many of the Masses these days is so disheartening that I’m reminded of Sondheim’s famous song:
“Don’t you love farce,
Isn’t it queer,
I thought that you’d want what I want,
Sorry, my dear!

There ought to be clowns
